About Me

Only a few short years after the Occupation of Alcatraz, the Wounded Knee Incident and the Shootout at Pine Ridge Reservation, a boy was conceived…

From the beginning, I was raised with intention. My great grandparents chose me before birth to be the pii’pii’taki of my generation - “favored grandson” in Blackfoot - they immersed me in traditional teachings and the power of story. They gave me the name O’mahk’siik’iimi (Big Waters). It’s more than simple Big Waters though, its a story about the properties of water and how they relate to my life - to always keep moving, to fill gaps, to nourish others, and to carve new channels where none existed before.

Over the years, I’ve grown from a traditional storyteller into an internationally bestselling author, illustrator, and founder of Eaglespeaker Publishing. I now live in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia), raising my two young sons while traveling rez-to-rez, working directly with communities across Turtle Island.

What began as a personal journey has grown into something much bigger. Eaglespeaker Publishing has partnered with over 375 Indigenous authors, representing more than 400 First Nations communities. Together, we’ve created raw, powerful, and truth-filled books that center Indigenous voices - unfiltered, authentic, and rooted in lived experience.

For me, storytelling isn’t just what I do… it’s who I am. Every book, every illustration, every project is part of a deeper mission: to give voice to our truths and to uplift the stories that have been ignored or misrepresented for too long.

My work is about more than publishing. It’s about empowering Indigenous voices, educating broader audiences, and encouraging the next generation to rise up with pride and purpose. I believe our stories can heal, challenge, and transform… and I’m committed to walking that path every day.

I am Omahk’siik’iimi. I’m always moving forward, carving new spaces for our voices to be heard - because our stories matter, and it’s time the world listened.
